Sébastien Engelen is counsel at contrast.

He specializes in European and competition law (antitrust, State aid and merger control).

His experience includes all aspects of competition law, including assistance during competition investigations, competition compliance trainings, leniency applications, and ensuing private damages litigation, as well as advising on structuring acquisitions, joint ventures and distribution/cooperation agreements.

He represents clients (private companies and public authorities) before the Court of Justice of the EU, the European Commission, national courts and national competition authorities.

Sébastien speaks French, Dutch, English and Italian.

Sport and competition law at a luncheon debate

On 23 September 2020, Sébastien Engelen will address the relation between sport and competition law at a luncheon debate of the Belgian Association for the Study of Competition Law. Together with Ben Van Rompuy (University Leyden), he will address recent developments at the EU and Belgian level regarding topics such as sports associations as market gatekeeper, the interplay between sports arbitration and public enforcement of EU competition law, as well as the interim measures sports case before the Belgian Competition Authority.
